2018 Farmers Insurance Open

Fantasy Golf Picks and Betting Odds for the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open

Torrey Pines Golf Course, La Jolla, California – This week in La Jolla, the PGA will be playing both the North and the South Course at legendary Torrey Pines. The par-72 South Course will be played three of the four rounds and measures an impressive 7,698 yards. It is a bombers track and accuracy off the tee will also be important due to the penalizing rough. The North Course, a 7,258-yard par 72, will be played by each player once on either Thursday or Friday, and usually plays around 3 strokes easier than its counterpart.

The big news this week is the presence of Tiger back at Torrey Pines, where he has won EIGHT  PGA events, including a U.S. Open on one leg. However, it seems doubtful that El Tigre will be factoring into our picks this week.

Some stats to consider this week: Driving Accuracy, Driving Distance (less important than accuracy), Par-5 scoring, SG Tee-to-Green.

‘FORE’ SOMES are chosen by selecting one player from a “low tier” betting pool (30:1 or better), two players from a “mid tier” (30:1 – 75:1), and a final player from a “high tier” (75:1 & up).

Jason Day  (22:1).  Can’t go chalk with Rahm. Gonna ride Day. Pure gut play.

Patrick Cantlay (35:1) & Jhonattan Vegas  (55:1).   Cantlay checks a lot of boxes this week. His recent form is strong in Driving Distance, Strokes Gained Against the Field, and Birdie or Better Percentage. A win in Las Vegas as well as two top 15’s in Hawaii and China point to the beginning of a monster year for the young pro out of UCLA  (also my OAD pick this week).  Vegas has quietly gathered three straight top 20’s and is showing some excellent form as of late. He’s among the top eagle leaders in this young season which means the longer tracks play to his advantage. Currently 37th on the OWGR and climbing.  (Really tough to pass on Schniederjans and Stanley in this range. Both playing very well at the moment).

Peter Uihlein  (80:1).  I wanted to make the case for Landry. In the end, I fell on Uihlein. So much to like about the young American who gained some stripes on the Euro Tour. Long off the tee. Not thrown by tough tracks or tough fields.

Hideki Matsuyama  (16:1)

Brian Harman  (33:1)

Francesco Molinari  (66:1)

Julian Suri  (150:1)

Jason Day  (22:1)

Cameron Smith  (50:1)

Ollie Schniederjans  (40:1)

J.J. Spaun  (100:1)
