2018 Genesis Open

Fantasy Golf Picks and Betting Odds for the 2018 Genesis Open

Riviera Country Club, Pacific Palisades, California – Legendary Riviera Country Club is the host this week for an insanely strong field. Four of the top eight in the OWGR are here in the form of Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Rory McIlroy. Tiger Woods is back and in the kind of form that looks like he will contend at some point this year. Phil Mickelson has not so quietly notched back-to-back top fives. There is even a whole host of in-form Euro Tour names that will be teeing it up: Tommy Fleetwood, Alex Noren, Thomas Pieters, Branden Grace, Rafael Cabrera Bello, and Hao Tong Li. All of this makes for what is sure to be a fabulous week of super pro golf.

The course is a beast at 7,322 yards. It’s narrow and tree-lined, long and complex. The greens are firm, fast, and small. And, while the kikuyu rough isn’t really heavy, it can be really tricky to play from.

Good driving will be a key this week. Decent driving length is important, too (although not entirely necessary, it’s not a bad idea to favor 300-plus averages). Other stats that will be worth weighing are Strokes Gained Putting, Proximity 150-175, and some course history (knowledge of some of the green complexes is a big advantage).

‘FORE’ SOMES are chosen by selecting one player from a “low tier” betting pool (30:1 or better), two players from a “mid tier” (30:1 – 75:1), and a final player from a “high tier” (75:1 & up).

Forgoing the “low tier” this week. Will be playing three from the “mid tier.”

Chez Reavie  (33:1) & Ollie Schneiderjans  (40:1) & Brendan Steele (50:1). Reavie pure fire lately. We were on him just a tad early before he went on his burner. Not going to miss the boat this week. Proximity 150-175 is super solid. Also ranks especially well for good driving and SG-APP. As good as anyone going at the moment. Little “perfect hair” Ollie Schniederjans blows up the model this week. Prox., Driving, SG-APP…it’s all there. We were on Steele two weeks ago when he racked a top 5 in Phoenix. He could have legit won that week if it weren’t for a couple of rolls that didn’t drop. At the top of his game: long off the tee and cooler than the other side of the pillow.

Charley Hoffman  (80:1).  Hoffman has got to be considered a steal at 80 to 1. Playing really well with strong finishes at the World Hero Challenge and the QBE Shootout. Strong course history here, too. Four straight cuts at the Genesis, including T4 last year and T12 in 2014. (So many great names with attractive value up in the high end. Hao Tong Li and Brandon Harkins could also easily be in this spot).

Paul Casey  28:1

Alex Noren  40:1       **(differing odds come from Will Hill)

Ollie Schneiderjans  40:1

Francesco Molinari  100:1

Thomas Pieters  40:1

James Hahn  66:1

Sang Moon Bae  80:1

Jhonattan Vegas  100:1
